JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL)-- A man who admitted to police that he hit his girlfriend with a bat before strangling her has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

An attorney for 26 year old Eric Osborn filed the written plea Thursday.  Osborn is accused of killing 34 year old Sarah McKay on March 7. He admitted to police that he smoked marijuana, took pills, and had sex with McKay before she was strangled at the couple's Iowa City home.

Osborn has told investigators that he doesn't remember the killing. He was treated for self-inflected injuries and is being held in the Johnson County Jail on $1 million bond.
