Iowa reading scores drop

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- New national test results released Wednesday show Iowa students have lost ground in reading and now score just slightly over the national average.

According to the report, Iowa's eighth graders scored lower last year, while the nation's average score jumped by one point.

Fourth grade scores also fell in our state -- one of only four states that saw a decline.

Iowa ranks 27th in the nation for fourth grade reading results -- 28th nationally for eighth grade.
