Jacobson signs on for 10 more years at UNI

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Men's basketball head coach Ben Jacobson signed a new contract Tuesday night that will keep him at the University of Northern Iowa through 2020.

The new agreement guarantees Jacobson $450,000 with annual increases of $25,000 through the end of the contract. Jacobson's current contract guarantees him $289,306 annually through 2016. The university says no public funds will be used to fund the increase to Jacobson's salary.

Jacobson is in his 4th season as the Panthers' head coach. He spent 5 years as the assistant coach at UNI under Greg McDermott.

Jacobson also won back-to-back honors as the Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2010.

The announcement about Jacobson's contract came during a send-off pep rally for the UNI men's basketball team as they head to St. Louis to make their first appearance in the regional semi-finals of the NCAA Tournament.
