Obesity drug submitted for FDA approval

A variety of pills and supplements are on the market claiming to help with weight loss.

But a Silicon Valley company has submitted a drug for FDA approval that it says could help the obese lose 10 to 15 percent of their body weight within a year.

The drug is called Qnexa.  Maker Vivus says it can fight high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and obesity.

It's a big claim that has mixed results on the street.  Qnexa still needs final fda approval before it can be sold.  Vivus says it expects to hear by October.
