Howard-Winneshiek Schools considers additional cuts

CRESCO (KWWL) -- Howard-Winneshiek Schools will decide Monday how to make additional cuts in the budget.  The school board voted last Monday to keep all the district's buildings open.  The decision to save nearly $1.5 million meant cutting teachers, and a shuttle service from Cresco to Ridgeway.

However, the next day, school officials found an even greater budget shortfall.

"The administration cabinet took a hard look at things on Tuesday and realized that we had section sizes that were too large in Cresco, and we were going to have to add some teachers back to the Cresco center so that would reduce the savings, so, potentially what the board's looking at tonight is are we going to have to make additional cuts," Superintendent Brian Ney said.

The meeting is tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the Cresco Elementary-Jr. High school.
