Obama trip to Iowa City planned

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- The White House is announcing that President Barack Obama will visit Iowa City this week, nearly three years after he came to the city as a presidential candidate to outline his plan for overhauling the nation's health care system.

A White House official, who spoke Monday on condition of anonymity because the trip hasn't been formally announced, says Obama will stop in Iowa City on Thursday. He will talk about how health care insurance reform will cut costs for businesses and families as well as give them greater control over their health care.

Obama first outlined his health care plan at a rally in Iowa City in May 2007, nearly eight months before his surprising win in the Iowa caucuses.

His visit will come only a few days after the House gave final approval to a health care overhaul.
