Panther victory a mirror image of 1990 win

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA (KWWL) -- History is repeating itself for the UNI Panther men's basketball team.  20 years ago, UNI won in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with a last second 3-point shot by Maurice Newby.  Prior to the shot, UNI was tied at 71 points against Missouri.

The Panther victory Thursday night was a near mirror image of the 1990 game.  Tied at 66, with just seconds to go, Ali Farokhmanesh threw a 3-point shot from nearly the exact position as Newby 20 years before.

Ali's shot went in and the Panthers proceeded to the second round for the first time in 20 years, over 9 seeded UNLV.

The 1990 team lost in the second round to Minnesota.  UNI is scheduled to play number 1 seeded Kansas Saturday night.
