CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - A group of 4th and 5th graders at Harrison Elementary in Cedar Rapids got to meet a few birds they might not normally see up close.
The students and residents at Meth-Wick Community met wildlife experts on St. Patrick's Day.

As part of National Wildlife Week, Jodeane Cancilla, director of the Macbride Raptor Project brought a screech owl and a hawk to show to the group.

The birds cannot be returned to the wild due to permanent injuries or human imprinting, which has destroyed the birds' instinctive survival skills.

The Macbride Raptor Project is devoted to preserving Iowa's birds of prey and their habitats through rehabilitation of sick and injured birds, educational programs for the public and field research.
The organization helps 180 birds annually.
