CR police to start giving red-light camera tickets

Posted:

CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) -- Attention, Cedar Rapids drivers: You were warned.

Starting Sunday, drivers who are caught on camera running a red light will get tickets in the mail.

Police had been issuing warnings for the violations.

Three red-light cameras are working, and five more are under construction. A speed enforcement camera is also planned for Interstate 380.

Cedar Rapids officials hired a Massachusetts company to install, maintain and operate the traffic enforcement cameras.

The company, Gatso USA, Inc., of Beverly, Mass., will get $30 for each red-light violation, with $70 for the city.

The city expects annual revenue of $750,000.
