Pneumonia vaccine

A new pneumonia vaccine may prevent the potentially deadly bacteria in children.

Researchers at the Centers for Disease Control have recommended all children ages two to fifty-nine months receive the PCV Thirteen vaccine -- it prevents thirteen strains of pneumonia.

The vaccine covers seven strains of the bacteria -- and while cases have gone down overall -- more children are getting sick from the strains not included in this vaccine.

Experts say nearly 65 percent of pneumonia cases in children in 2007 will now be covered by the new vaccine.
