Local Americorps volunteers teaming up with North Cedar residents

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Volunteers in Cedar Falls are working to make sure those impacted by the 2008 flood have help if they need it this weekend. Thursday morning a group from Green Iowa Americorps helped local churches and the North Cedar Neighborhood Association contact former flood victims. Americorps members identified about twenty people who may need assistance if the Cedar River reaches the flood stage.

"They asked us to start making phone calls, finding out who could need help who might need help moving out of the home or moving stuff up," said Green Iowa Americorps Program Director Courtney Schiappa.

Schiappa said Americorps is making about a dozen volunteers available to help individuals and families should the Cedar River flood.  If you need help evacuating this weekend, call the Cedar Falls City Hall. They'll work to have someone available to get you and your valuables to safety.
