Oswald’s wife and victim’s mother may be exempt from trial coverage

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Shane Oswald, the Dubuque Hempstead High School assistant principal accused of having sex with a student and giving her drugs and alcohol, appeared briefly in court Tuesday.

The hearing was to determine who media can take pictures of and videotape during the trial. The victim is a minor and will not be shown. The judge is also considering barring media from showing or naming the victim's mother and showing Oswald's wife.

Both attorneys agreed those two should be considered. Several other people, including the victim's ex-boyfriend and teachers asked to be exempt from media coverage, but were denied.

The judge said he will make a decision on Oswald's wife and the victim's mother this week.

Oswald's trial has been postponed to sometime in May due to scheduling conflicts.
