Boys and Girls Club of Cedar Rapids benefits from Variety partnership

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Like the kids at The Boys and Girls Club of Cedar Rapids, the organization itself is quickly growing.

"We went from two sites to four sites in a very short amount of time," said Ainsley Hogan, development coordinator.

That's why she is so thankful for an ongoing partnership with the Variety Club, which recently donated a brand new 15-passenger van. This third vehicle is going a long way in getting these kids to where they need to go.

"On the days that it's really cold, if it's not walking distance to the site, we can go pick up more kids and bring them to the site," Hogan explained. "We're actually serving more kids now, because of that van."

To many people, it may look like just a van, but it's much more than that to these youngsters.

"It smells good, and the seats are softer," said one young boy.

"I like it because we can all be safe and wear our seatbelts, and it's clean and it smells good," said a girl, smiling.

These "sunshine" coaches aren't the only things The Boys and Girls Club has received from the Variety Club. Hogan says the organization has donated bikes and arranged field trips. So, she and these kids are grateful, because without the Variety Cub, getting all of these smiling faces together every day wouldn't be so easy.
