Hempstead assistant principal's trial delayed

DUBUQUE (KWWL/Telegraph Herald) - According to our coverage partner, the Telegraph Herald, Dubuque Hempstead High School Assistant Principal Shane Oswald's trial has been pushed back to May.

The newspaper reported that a pretrial hearing was held Monday.

His attorney, Werner Hellmer, spoke on Oswald's behalf and requested a continuance of his trial date because of scheduling conflicts.

The TH reported that Judge Monica Ackley rescheduled Oswald's April 5 trial date to May.

Oswald is charged with sexual exploitation by a school employee, distribution of a controlled substance to a minor and providing alcohol to someone younger than 21.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges in February.

The criminal complaint alleges the 39-year-old Oswald of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.

Oswald is currently on paid administrative leave.
