Candidates file for Linn County offices

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Election day may still be eight months away, but candidates in Linn County are making plans to be on the ballot.

Current Linn County Supervisor Lu Barron, who represents District 2, announced on Monday that she will seek re-election.

Barron has held that seat for the past 14 years.

Barron says, "I want to make it clear that while I am elected by voters in District 2, I serve all Linn County residents."

She says her goals for the next four years include maintaining a balanced budget, bringing more jobs to Linn County, continuing flood recovery and getting funding for the Highway 100 extension.

According to Linn County Auditor Joel Miller, Assistant Linn County Attorney, Jerry Vander Sanden, has filed paperwork to run for the Linn County Attorney spot.

Harold Denton, the current Linn County Attorney, announced plans to retire in March of 2009.
