IOWA CITY (KWWL) - A teenager charged in a shooting death in Iowa City pleads not-guilty.

17-year-old Charles Thompson is charged with first-degree murder in the death of John Versypt of Cordova, Illinois. The written plea was filed in Johnson County District Court Wednesday.

Police say Versypt was doing maintenance at one of his properties in Iowa City when he was shot to death last October.

Lab results showed gunshot residue on the clothes Thompson was wearing. Thompson was brought into custody four days after the shooting on an unrelated charge.

Bond is set at one-million dollars.
