Cedar Falls finishes second in distinctive destinations vote

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- An online vote for the fan favorite in the 2010 Dozen Distinctive Destinations competition put Cedar Falls in second place, behind Marquette, Michigan.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation recognized Cedar Falls as one of 12 cities in the U.S. offering cultural and recreational experiences different from those found at typical vacation destinations.

Cedar Falls was recognized for its "historic charm and character."  After the February 3rd announcement, the National Trust held an online vote through Feb. 28 for a fan favorite city.  The only city from Iowa in the competition finished second place in the vote.

Marquette, MI is home to Northern Michigan University and had a strong local push to get people voting for the top spot.  The designation means the city earned even more recognition as a travel destination.

The Dozen Distinctive Destinations program is ten years old.
