Loebsack on National Nutrition Month

Posted:

WASHINGTON, D.C.

March is National Nutrition Month and Iowa Democratic Congressman, Dave Loebsack, today introduced legislation aimed at improving food quality. Congressman Dave Loebsack issued the following statement on National Nutrition Month.

Congressman Loebsack has long been an advocate for improving childhood nutrition and has introduced legislation that will improve the quality of food in school meal programs and make healthy foods more accessible and affordable.

"During these tough economic times, it is increasingly critical that we work towards making sure that all children have access to foods that are healthful. Far too many children are still not meeting the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommendations for total fat, saturated fat, sodium, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

"National Nutrition Month calls attention to the fact that all too often our children are unable to access quality, affordable, nutritious meals. I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle on solutions that will help provide children with access to high-quality meals and make it easier for schools to provide meals that are healthful."
