Local Girl Scouts say their cookies are not part of recall

Posted:

ROCK ISLAND, IL (KWWL) -- The Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois say the lemon-flavored cookies being sold locally are safe to eat and are not part of the recall.

The local Girl Scouts get their version of the cookie, called Lemonades, from ABC Bakers.

The cookies being recalled are called Lemon Chalet Cremes and are made by Little Brownie Bakers.

According to Chuck Gysi with the Girls Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, the Lemon Chalet Cremes made by Little Brownie Bakers have been affected by an oil rancidity issue which impacts the smell of the cookie, but the cookies are safe to eat.

Gysi assures everyone that ABC Bakers regularly tests their cookies and have not noticed similar problems nor do they expect similar issues with any of the products that they manufacture for Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois.

He says none of the products being produced by ABC Bakers are involved with the recent problems experienced by Little Brownie Bakers.
