Wapsie Valley defeats Dike-New Hartford to advance to state

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Wapsie Valley survived a back and forth battle to defeat Dike-New Hartford 49-46 and will return to the boys state tournament for the first time in 6 seasons.

The ballgame came down to the final minutes.  Dike-New Hartford took a took a one point edge on a Matt Dove lay-up with under 2 minutes to go.  Zach Schmidt countered for Wapsie Valley hitting a contested inside bucket giving the Warriors a one point lead with under a minute remaining.

After Wapsie added 2 more free throws, Dike-New Hartford had one last shot, but Lance Welsh's desperation 3 glanced off the rim giving Wapsie Valley the victory.

Dike-New Hartford finishes their 2010 campaign at 18-6.
