Couple face child endangerment charges

STORM LAKE (KWWL) - Authorities in Storm Lake say they have filed child endangerment charges against a woman and her live-in boyfriend because they believe the woman's 9-year-old son hadn't been properly fed since early this month.

Storm lake police say they took a report from the Iowa Department of Human Services about possible neglect of the boy. The child had been admitted to Blanks Children's Hospital in Des Moines because a routine medical exam turned up evidence of malnutrition.

Investigators say the boy must be fed through a feeding tube inserted into his stomach, and the mother and boyfriend apparently had not been doing that.

The two, 31-year-old Amy Engleman and 25-year-old Michael Garlock, are now charged with child endangerment causing serious injury, a Class C felony.
