IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Animal lovers: Mark your calendar for the Pet Care Fair scheduled Saturday, March 6th at the Grant Wood School Gymnasium, 1930 Lakeside Drive in Iowa City.

The event, which is sponsored by the Grant Wood Neighborhood Association, the City of Iowa City Office of Neighborhood Services, and Friends of the Animal Center Foundation, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. The event is open to the public, and there is no charge to attend.

The Pet Care Fair will provide education, advice, and tips on how to work with animals to create a positive, nurturing environment for both pets and owners. Pet experts at informational booths will be available to answer pet owners' questions, and provide information on proper care for dogs, cats, and other companion animals. The live demonstrations will teach kids and parents about dog bite prevention and safety around animals, as well as ways to prepare your pet for emergencies, and pet first aid. Plus, fair-goers will have the chance to meet animals available for adoption from the Iowa City Animal Care & Adoption Center.

The schedule of demonstrations, which is subject to change, is as follows:

1:30 - Dog Bite Prevention and Safety Around Animals

2:00 - Disaster Preparation for Pet Owners

2:30 - Pet First Aid

3:00 - Dog Bite Prevention and Safety Around Animals

Participating organizations include the Iowa City Animal Care & Adoption Center, Bright Eyes & Bushy Tails Veterinary Hospital, SPOT & Co. Dog Training, Delta Society/Iowa City R.E.A.D. Program, United Animal Nations, Johnson County Dog PAC, Johnson County Humane Society, Iowa City Dog Obedience Club, Iowa Voters for Companion Animals, and Iowa Parrot Rescue.

Organizers of the Pet Care Fair ask that attendees leave their own pets at home for this event, but encourage individuals and families to bring their questions about their pets or pet ownership, and enjoy a fun-filled, educational afternoon!
