Funding for cancer research in Iowa

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a $607,188 to the University of Iowa for a cooperative agreement.

The University of Iowa will use the money from the National Cancer Institute for a cancer detection and diagnosis research project entitled, "Quantitative Imaging to Assess Response in Cancer Therapy Trials."

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual's ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
