UPDATE: Iowa City fire displaces 10

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The Iowa City Fire Department is still trying to figure out what caused a fire at 515 East College Street Thursday that has 10 people looking for places to live.

The fire was reported at 4:21 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the house which contains seven apartments that housed 10 people.

The fire started in an area where an addition was attached to the house.

Firefighters did have to help evacuate several people from the house.

It took six fire departments about five hours to get the fire put out.

Iowa City received help from Coralville, West Branch, Solon, North Liberty and Swisher.

Tiffin and Lone Tree helped staff the Iowa City fire stations.

One hamster was rescued from the house and returned safely to its owner.

The residents were assisted by the Red Cross.

Iowa City Assessor records show the property belongs to John and Jo Ellen Roffman.

The cause remains under investigation.
