Cedar Rapids man considering run for Governor

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- A Cedar Rapids man says, "it is time for a common person to run for office", and he wants to be your next Governor.

Gregory James Hughes, a divorced father and employee of Quaker Oats, has started an exploratory committee to gather signatures for his nominating petition.

According to his website, www.hughesforgov.com, he has served on the Child Support Advisory Committee and with Iowa Fathers.

A check of the Iowa Fathers website shows he is on their Board of Directors and is the Treasurer.

Hughes says he is an Independent.

If Hughes makes a run for Iowa's top office, he would join current Governor, and Democrat, Chet Culver and another Independent, John Narcisse, on the ballot.

On the Republican side, former Governor Terry Branstad, Representative Christopher Rants, businessman Bob Vander Plaats and Representative Rod Roberts are all vying for the Republican nod.
