Cedar Rapids companies team up for Haiti

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Some companies from a city that knows a little bit about disaster recovery, are teaming up to help the recovery effort in Haiti.

Employees at Worley Companies, a Cedar Rapids logistics company, loaded 48 pallets of cereal, oatmeal, granola bars and fruit snacks onto a semi for transport to Haiti.

The truck will take the food to Chicago, where it will be loaded onto a train that will take it to the Port of Miami.

From there, the Cedar Rapids products will be put on a ship that will take it to Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.

The food is all produced in Cedar Rapids by Quaker, General Mills and Ralston Foods.

The partnership also includes the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, Diamond V and Food for the Poor.

Dan Curran, Director of Business Development for Worley, says that this is just the initial shipment of a three phase plan that includes bringing long-term sustainability to Haiti.
