Inmates put to work filling potholes in Black Hawk County

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Inmates serving time at the Black Hawk County Jail are getting a chance to repay their debt to society. In a joint effort with the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office and the City of Waterloo, inmates spent this morning filling potholes on 11th Street.

In the past, inmates have shoveled sidewalks and mowed lawns on public property. Sheriff Tony Thompson says this is just the natural progression of the inmate worker program.

Thompson also says this is a way for inmates to have a positive impact on the communities in Black Hawk County.

Tonight on the KWWL News at 5, News Channel Seven's John Wilmer look at this program and why the City of Waterloo is getting involved.
