Orangutan bites Iowa caretaker

DES MOINES (KWWL) - A caretaker at the Great Ape Trust in Des Moines has been bitten by an orangutan, but she suffered only bruises.  Officials say Stephanie Perkins was collecting a urine sample from the orangutan enclosure Saturday morning when an orangutan named Katy grabbed her right hand and bit her palm. Another orangutan named Popi smacked Katy, who then released the caretaker.  Popi is a 38-year-old female orangutan. She starred with actor Clint Eastwood in the movie "Any Which Way You Can" during the 1980s. Katy is 21 years old.  Perkins was treated at a hospital for bruises and swelling. She had no other injuries.  The trust is home to colonies of orangutans and bonobos.
