First red light/speed camera goes active in Cedar Rapids

Posted:

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- It's a go for the project aimed at stopping red light runners and speeders in Cedar Rapids that has been in the works for more than a year.

Starting at midnight Friday morning, the Cedar Rapids Police Department will start recording violators with the camera located at 2nd Avenue SE and 10th Street.

Anyone caught speeding or running a red light with this camera will be given a warning for the next 30-days.

After that 30-day period is over, violators will be expected to pay their fine or go through the appeals process.

Each person caught speeding will get a letter with instructions on how to view the violation on-line and make their decision on how they will proceed.

If you have questions on the program, you can send an e-mail to crpdredlight@cedar-rapids.org.
