BECKER TRIAL: Jury selected

SHELL ROCK (KWWL) -- A jury of 10 men and 6 women was chosen in Butler County on Thursday. Testimony will begin at the courthouse in Allison at 10 a.m. on Friday.

More than 200 people showed for the jury selection process. About 40 were dismissed for having a reasonable conflict on Monday.

On Tuesday, 36 people were randomly selected from the entire jury pool to be questioned by the prosecution, defense and the judge. Only one person in the initial group of 36 said they had no knowledge of Mark Becker or the case.

Potential jurors were questioned about their occupation, their relationship to other potential jurors and with those involved in the case. They were also asked if they could put all of those things aside and act as an impartial juror.

Twelve will serve on the jury and four will be available as alternates.

Mark Becker is facing a first degree murder charge in the death of Aplington-Parkersburg teacher and coach Ed Thomas. Becker has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
