#1 Denver-Tripoli crushes #5 Independence to advance to state duals

Posted:

MANCHESTER (KWWL) -- Top ranked Denver-Tripoli will make a return trip to the state duals meet after besting #5 Independence 55-22 on Wednesday night.

That dominance didn't show early on, however, as Independence started the match with a 6-0 lead after Nick Fuller pinned D-T's Chase Shedenholm.  The Mustangs eventually took an 18-14 match lead, but lost the momentum at heavyweight.  Tenth ranked Mustang Cameron Hayward seemed in control against unranked Brad Coontz.  A high risk move, however, allowed Coontz to get the reversal.  He later would get Hayward on his back for the pin and the upset.

The Titans would go on a run winning 7 of the final 8 matches, allowing them to cruise to the state duals in Cedar Rapids.
