A tip to keep your driveway from getting plowed in

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Inevitably you have had the end of your driveway buried in snow by a snowplow this winter.

Well, our good neighbors in Minnesota have a tip to keep more of that snow out of your driveway.

They're called snow pockets.

The good people of Sibley County, Minnesota, that is southwest of the Twin Cities, have detailed the process to creating these pockets.

First, place as much snow as possible from the end of your driveway in the adjacent roadside ditch away from the roadway and downstream from your driveway.

Then, clear an area upstream from your driveway to create an open "pocket".

The Minnesota Department of Transportation and Sibley County says "much of the snow pushed by the plow truck will empty into this pocket and less will wind up in the driveway entrance".

They remind you that the pocket needs to be maintained throughout the winter to be effective.
