UPDATE: Charges filed after mall fight

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Charges have been filed against two teens following a fight at Crossroads Mall at the end of January.

Police say that a 13-year old got into a fight with a 15-year old at the mall on January 31, 2010.

They say the teens got into an argument inside the mall and agreed to go outside and fight.

Several people witnessed the fight and police say no weapons were involved.

Police arrested Malik Deyontae Lee Guzzle, 13, and Francisco Pascual Rubio, 15.

Both are charged with Disorderly Conduct and have been referred to Juvenile Court Service.

Guzzle was first taken to Covenant Medical Center but was later transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Guzzle's mom, Amanda, says her son was released from UIHC on February 2, 2010 and has suffered short-term memory loss and was not medically cleared to return to school until this week.

She admits her son agreed to fight at least one kid outside, but said Malik was not expecting to face weapons.

She says brass knuckles were used in the fight against her son.
