Truck vs. train in Tiffin, 2 hurt

TIFFIN (KWWL) -- Two people are being treated for non-life threatening injuries after a truck hit a train.

Officials say a truck was northbound on Jasper Ave. and was hit by a train Tuesday.  It happened around noon.  The truck was destroyed.

The Johnson County Sheriff says the driver of the truck, Daniel Steward of Marion, and the passenger, Emily Dirks, were taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment of the injuries.  The engineer of the train, Edward Bowman, and the conductor, Stanley Thomas were uninjured in the accident.

Officials say a citation for failing to properly stop at the railroad crossing is pending against Steward.  An investigation is continuing.

The mess has since been cleared and the train continued down the tracks.
