Panther women surge late to roll over Evansville 71-52

EVANSVILLE, INDIANA (KWWL) -- The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team outscored Evansville 26-8 in the game's final nine minutes to take a 71-52 win over the Aces in Missouri Valley Conference action Sunday afternoon in Roberts Stadium.

The Panthers led just 45-44 with 9:10 on the clock, but UNI held UE to 0-14 shooting from the floor and just eight free throws through the rest of the game to take the win.  

Erin Brocka and K.K. Armstrong led the Panthers (10-12, 6-5 MVC) with 15 points each. Jacqui Kalin added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Danielle Wubbens finished with 11 points, nine of them scored in the first half.

Amy Gallagher led the Aces with 14 points, and Samantha Heck added 13 points and seven rebounds for UE. Chelsea Falkenstein also collected seven rebounds for the Purple Aces.

UNI shot 26-of-57 (45.6 percent) from the floor, including 3-of-17 (17.6 percent) from three-point range. The Panthers were 16-of-21 (76.2 percent) from the free-throw line.

Evansville shot 14-of-47 (29.8 percent) from the floor, and just 5-of-27 (18.5 percent) in the second half. UE finished 22-of-29 (75.9 percent) from the free-throw line.

The Panthers turned Evansville's 21 turnovers into 21 points, while the Aces converted UNI's 15 turnovers into seven points.

UNI held a 37-32 rebounding advantage, including 11 offensive rebounds resulting in 10 second-chance points. Evansville turned their 10 offensive rebounds into five second-chance points.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they host Bradley at 3:07 p.m.
