Dubuque couple shares wedding with RAGBRAI riders

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Just a week ago, the 2010 RAGBRA route was unveiled. The 442 mile ride across northern Iowa, will finish in Dubuque on Saturday July 31st.

The ride will bring thousands through Dubuque and likely end with a party on the river. One couple's wedding day is on a collision course with RAGBRAI's final stop.

Beth Stephenson remembers the day her fiancé proposed, like it was yesterday.

"I had worked a lot of long hours, so decided to get away. We went to La Romania. It was the Friday of our trip," said Stephenson.

When the two returned to Dubuque the plans started rolling.

"Now it's not about the date you want it's who has something open," said Stephenson.

Though sooner then expected, they set a date, Saturday July 31st.

"We wanted it sometime in the summer, we wanted it to be kinda nice out. We were hoping for some fall like but just dates available and stuff. We contacted the arboretum and they were open," said Stephenson.

Two weeks ago, the 2010 RAGBRAI route revealed Dubuque as it's final stop on the 442 mile ride across Iowa.

"I was like 'oh my god' it is going to be so crazy. Traffic is gonna be outrageous," said Stephenson.

As Director of Human Resources at the Diamond Jo, Stephenson knows how much the stop means to Dubuque. But she didn't imagine the date would collide with her wedding day.

"It's gonna be a great thing for downtown. It's gonna be wonderful and to being so much to the area, and that's a good thing," said Stephenson.

With family and friends coming from out of town she's already booked their hotels. And says if hotels run out of room, they always have their house.

"I hope we can find a place to stay," she laughed.

But she's not worried, come July 31st, as bikers roll into town, all she'll have to worry about is walking down the aisle.

Many hotels in Dubuque and surrounding cities like Dyersville are already filling up for RAGBRAI. The two have their reception in Dyersville and say the hotels there are also filling up.
