Athletes take part in national signing day

SOLON (KWWL)- National signing day has developed into quite a phenomenon for high school athletes across the country.

Many in Eastern Iowa took advantage of the first day a high school senior can sign a binding letter of intent to play sports collegiately.

James Morris of Solon had verbally committed to play football at the University of Iowa early in his high school career.

Early this morning Morris' family, friends, coaches, and members of the media gathered to watch him sign his intent to play football for the Hawkeyes.

"It's been about three years since I've pledged my commitment and it's kind of nice, it makes it official. It gets all the recruiting stuff out of the way and now all I've gotta worry about is getting into school and playing football," said Morris.
