Vote Tuesday on Sumner-Fredericksburg school projects

SUMNER (KWWL) -- Voters go to the polls Tuesday to vote on a number of funding options for Sumner-Fredericksburg Schools.

Fredericksburg Middle School is looking at partial demolition and expansion of some classrooms, an upgrade to its kitchen and the addition of a new multi-purpose room.  Those projects would cost $4.2 million.

In Sumner, administrators want a second gymnasium and an eight lane-all season track.  They also want a new weight room with restrooms.  Those projects would cost $3.7 million.

The district is looking at a number of funding options, including general allocation bonds and sales tax purpose statements.

"Whether the purpose statement passes or not, the one cent is there and will be paid so that won't affect people's pocket books whatsoever. It's just an issue of allowing the district to bond against that money," Superintendent Rick Pederson said.

If the money is approved, construction in Sumner could begin this summer.  Administrators want to have the track ready by the fall.
