Dubuque School Board may terminate administrator

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- The Dubuque Community Schools Board of Education has called a special meeting for Monday night.

The agenda lists an item "Consider termination of administrator contract".  The administrator is not named.

The School Board will move to a closed session.  Under Iowa Code, the board may have a closed session "if necessary, to prevent needles and irreparable injury to reputation, and the administrator requests a closed session".

If a closed session is held, the Board would move to return to open session to  take final action.

This special meeting comes less than one week after Hempstead High School Assistant Principal Shane Oswald was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation by a school employee, distribution of drugs to a minor, and providing alcohol to a minor.

The day of Oswald's arrest, Superintendent Larie Godinez said, "The District is working with its attorney and will take all appropriate action upon completion of the process."  All communication with the District indicates Oswald is on administrative leave currently.

Again, the administrator who could be terminated by the School Board is not named in the Board's agenda.
