UNI women drop Indiana State 85-68

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- University of Northern Iowa sophomore Jacqui Kalin scored 34 points and grabbed nine rebounds, both career highs, to lead the Panther women's basketball team to an 85-68 win over Indiana State in Missouri Valley Conference action Saturday afternoon in the McLeod Center. The teams were tied going into the half, but UNI (8-12, 4-5 MVC) outscored the Sycamores 50-33 in the second half to earn the win.

Kalin's career effort came on 11-of-17 shooting, including 5-of-9 from behind the arc. She tallied 24 of her points in the second half. Erin Brocka notched the Panthers' first double-double of the season, posting 13 points and 11 rebounds. Kim Wypiszynski used 11-of-11 free-throw shooting to finish with 13 points.

Deja Maddox led ISU (11-9, 2-7 MVC) with 20 points and four rebounds. Brittany Schoen and Kelsey Luna each tallied 12 points for the Sycamores.

UNI shot 24-of-56 (42.9 percent) from the floor, including 10-of-24 (41.7 percent) from three-point range. UNI shot 27-of-28 (96.4 percent) from the free-throw line.

Indiana State shot 26-of-52 (50 percent) from the floor, including 8-of-16 (50 percent) from behind the arc. The Sycamores finished 8-of-14 (57.1 percent) from the free-throw line.

The Panthers committed 11 turnovers in the game, just three in the second half, which Indiana State turned into 14 points. UNI turned ISU's 15 turnovers into 18 points. The Panthers outrebounded ISU, 38-24, and used 12 offensive rebounds to score 14 second-chance points. UNI held Indiana State to four offensive rebounds and just two second-chance points.

The Panthers return to action on Friday when they play at Southern Illinois.
