Don't have a mountain? Try climbing a silo

Cedar Falls (KWWL)--Iowa may not have mountains for climbers to challenge themselves with, but some people in Cedar Falls make due with ice on the side of silos.

Saturday, dozens of people climbed silos that were covered with ice.

The event was thought up by Don Briggs when he wanted to climb the silo, but the weather got too cold.

Briggs says water is sprayed on the silos and then mother nature does the rest.

The event has brought people from all over the United States.

"What I think is pretty neat is people from Kentucky, Western Kentucky came up, University of Arkansas came up and brought a contingency up and those people who have never even experienced cold weather before get to feel what its like here in Iowa," said Don Briggs, silo climbing organizer.

Briggs says the oldest climber he's had was 86 years old and the youngest was just seven.
