Fire cancels classes at Bunger Middle School


EVANSDALE (KWWL) -- Emergency crews responded to a small fire at Bunger Middle School, on South Roosevelt Road in Evansdale, on Thursday morning.

Evansdale fire chief Kent Smock says firemen got the call just after 7:45 a.m. and arrived to smoke throughout the building.
Teachers had evacuated the school and moved students to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

Police have a resource officer who works in the building, the officer took a fire extinguisher into the restroom to put the fire out.

Chief Smock says there is moderate smoke damage to the north and west wing of the school, only minor damage to a bathroom stall and the bathroom.

The case has been turned over to police for further investigation.

Teachers dismissed students from classes early, from the Prince of Peace church just after 9:30 a.m.
Administrators also cancelled a basketball game planned at the school. "

There's no word if the fire will affect any classes Friday.
