Culver releases proposed FY 2011 budget

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Gov. Chet Culver released his proposed budget for FY 2011 Wednesday afternoon which would continue most of the budget cuts made last fall.

Culver has proposed only 31 percent of programs and agencies receive an increase over FY 2010. Among those are a 2 percent allowable growth plus $100 million from reserve funds for K-12 education. Culver's budget also calls for increases to the Department of Public Safety and Department of Corrections to avoid layoffs.

Also, after criticism and a review of state tax credits, the proposed budget calls for a $52.5 million reduction in tax credits.

The budget also covers a projected growth in both Hawk-i and Medicaid enrollment.
