Half for Haiti, Dubuque jewelry store helps raise money

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Downtown business is doing their part to encourage you to do yours. McCoy Goldsmith and Jeweler is offering 50 percent off all items in exchange for a direct donation to the Red Cross. There is not a set amount, although they request 25 percent of the original cost. The deal is just in time for Valentine's Day but the McCoy's say it's not about profit.

"People are shopping for their Valentine's, people are looking for gifts and we know that if we do something that will give people a chance to do two good deeds. One for their significant other and one for some people that really need the help," said Jonathan McCoy, designer.

The McCoy's hope their deal inspired other businesses in the downtown area to find ways to help Haiti. If you'd like to find out more about their half for Haiti program, you can visit Lauren's Blog, Squires Scribbles for a link to their web site as well as a video from owners.
