Waterloo Schools enhance parent interaction

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The Waterloo Community School District is rolling out a new online system that will give parents and guardians the ability to access student records online.

The site is called Infinite Campus and will show a student's demographic and attendance information, class schedule, fees, and other information.

For middle and high school students, teachers will post details about class work, assignment scores, a calendar of due dates, and a report for missing work.

Teachers will start updating the system in mid-February on a weekly basis and all information entered into Infinite Campus will immediately be available to parents and guardians.

The Waterloo Community School District says this is a major improvement over the old Parent@School portal, where assignment detail was only updated weekly and wasn't immediately available.

The site will also provide a communication channel between parents and teachers. Teachers will have the option to send out an electronic newsletter, and parents will have a direct link to teacher e-mail addresses.

Letters will be mailed to parents with a special code and directions on how to sign up for the new student information system. The Infinite Campus can also be accessed through the District Web site at www.waterloo.k12.ia.us.

The Infinite Campus site will use a 128 bit encryption to protect student information and each parent or guardian will have a separate login.
