Cedar Rapids man assaults Vinton man in Marion

MARION (KWWL) -- A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested for assaulting a Vinton man at a Marion home.

Marion Police were called to 1101 18th Street at around 2:52 p.m. on Wednesday for a report of an assault.

Officers found that Keith Gogel, 42 of Cedar Rapids, had forced his way into the house and assaulted Justin Miller of Vinton.

Miller was taken to St. Luke's Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

At around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night, Marion Police, along with deputies from the Linn County Sheriff's Office and the Cedar Rapids Police Special Response Team (SRT), went to Gogel's home at 6524 Parkview Avenue SE to serve a search warrant.

Gogel refused to come out, and SRT officers shot tear gas into the home.

Gogel came out and was arrested.

No gunshots were fired, and no one was injured.

Gogel is charged with 1st Degree Burglary and was taken to the Linn County Jail.
