UPDATE: 11,000 still without power Friday

DES MOINES (KWWL, AP) --  It could be days before some Iowans have power fully restored to their homes and businesses.

Ice as thick as 2 inches is scene in parts of western and central Iowa. That coating has snapped power lines and brought down trees.

On Friday, MidAmerican Energy reported 11,000 customers still without power, with most in the Sioux City and Des Moines areas.

Rural electric cooperatives also are dealing with outages, especially in western Iowa. In Carroll County, officials say it could be days before power is restore. Large parts of the town of Carroll and most of the county are without power.

Thursday, as many as 30,000 customers were without power. Gov. Chet Culver has issued an emergency proclamation for Carroll, Cass, and Sac Counties.
