H1N1 vaccine still available to UNI students for free

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Working to prevent the spread of a possible third wave of the H1N1 strain of influenza, the University of Northern Iowa Wednesday held this free vaccine clinic.

There were around 950 doses available free of cost to students, but no where near that number actually showed up.  Officials say there's still time for those who missed the clinic to get vaccinated.

"They can get an appointment anytime during the day we're open from eight to five and we'll be able to give em one until we run out," Student Health Clinic Director Shelly O'Connell said.

Vaccine is now widely available at several area pharmacies.  Many hospitals are also easing up on visitation restrictions put in place during the fall wave of H1N1.  40 Iowans died in 2009 from complications of the new flu.
