Stay safe when the power goes out

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- If you are without power there are a number of steps you can take to stay safe.

Dress for the weather. Wearing several layers of loose fitting warm clothing is more efficient than one layer of heavy clothing.

Wear a hat. Most body heat is lost through the top of the head.

Also watch for signs of frostbite. If there is a loss of feeling or a pale color to your extremities seek medical help as soon as possible.

Officials with the Black Hawk County Emergency Management Agency are keeping a close eye on the storm as it passes through the area.

"The worst thing we can do is end up having power outages so we need to be prepared to be without power for possibly three or four days. I don't think it will come to that here but it could," said Black Hawk County Emergency Management Agency Operations Manager, Lawrence Tisor.
