Police arrest Dubuque shooting victim for assault

DUBUQUE (KWWL) --  The victim in last week's shooting at Dubuque Pawn turned himself into Dubuque Police Sunday night and was arrested on a warrant for assault causing injury.

20-year-old Geromey Gilliand was shot in the back at Dubuque Pawn on Monday, January 11.  Police say the shooting stemmed from an alleged assault the previous Saturday.

Gilliand was released from the hospital last week and reportedly left the city.  Gilliand had a warrant for his arrest from the Saturday assault charge.  The warrant is not related to the shooting.

Police say investigators and family members had contact with Gilliand and convinced him to return to Dubuque.

Gilliand is being held on $3,000 cash bond.

Assault Causing Injury is a Serious Misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $315 and not more than $875, and/or imprisonment not to exceed one year.

Police say the investigation into the shooting is continuing.
